This is just retarded...

http://www.examiner.net/homepage/x889230448/Supporting-Idol-star

Basically, Blue Springs, MO wants to cash in on David Cook. You know...the scruffy bearded guy who just won that big karaoke contest on TV (American Idio...I mean Idol.)

My Favorite part of this story...

" "Mayor Ross said he had been in California recently, and when he asked people if they knew who David Cook was, most people said they did.“Then I told them I was his mayor,” he said. "

Uh...doesn't that guy live in TULSA? Soooooo...you're technically NOT his mayor....since he doesn't live in Blue Springs anymore?? DUH.

The other thing that just seems stupid to me about all this is that it's of the opinion of the city council/management that BSMO is not being 'marketed' enough. Well, what exactly DO you have to market? There's not even a Walmart there anymore! The only thing you could put on a sign 'welcoming' people to Blue Springs would be "HEY! Last stop for a step above fast food before Columbia!"

It's a bedroom community folks! There no industry, no theme park, no tacky Branson shows to pimp out,...NOTHING.

"So Mister City Councilperson. You live in Blue Springs?"
"Yes I do! And I'm proud to live there! It's a great place to live!!"
"Why is it a great place to live?"
"DON'T YOU KNOW!!!!!!!! DAVID COOK LIVED HERE WHEN HE WAS A KID!!!!!!!!!"

... crickets.

This excerpt from the article posted in The Examiner today is the opinion of the mayor only. It seems to be the objective some individuals to "market" the city and themselves at his expense.

Please do not think that everyone who resides in Blue Springs or those employed by the City of Blue Springs are trying to take advantage of Mr. Cook's celebrity status. We are proud of him but are not attempting to collect our own claim to fame on his shirtail.

BTW, Blue Springs has the prototype of the super Wal-Marts that are across the nation located at I-70 and Coronado. It will soon rivil Kansas City for its amenities.

Regarding the Mayor's comments, you're right. I didn't say they reflected *everyone's* opinion...and I'm GLAD that it doesn't.

I stand corrected then, regarding Walmart! I was unaware that it had moved!! Good for you all!!

I think 'rival' is a long shot. Blue Springs has been stalled by poor development efforts along the i70 corridor for a loooooooong time. I've lived in Independence for 33 years and have driven through BS countless times. It's good to see the development happening on the north end of 7 Highway, but that's not where the traffic is...especially since 40 basically dead-ends at 7 when east bound.

In the next ten years a significant development change will emerge in Blue Springs that should change its image. Between the development of Adams Dairy Landing and the Chapman Farm development, with a second Wal-Mart Supercenter located at the southern portion of the city, it will become more like Lee's Summit and North Kansas City.

My opinion regarding the mayor's comments were merely to express that they seem to reflect his extreme amour-propre. We are appreciative that others realize that the opinions expressed by a select few and reflected via the media is not the opinions or actions of the general populus.

Thank you for allowing and your response to my comments.
